HEALTHY HOUSING PEOPLE CAN AFFORD

Christian's housing policy priorities:

Support Home Ownership: Make the city’s home repair grant program permanent, prevent water bill foreclosures, and expand down-payment and settlement assistance to help people become homeowners.

Stabilize Rents: Limit the amount rents can go up each year so residents who want to can afford to stay.

Renovate Vacant Properties: Create grant programs to help responsible owners secure and fix up vacant properties.

Build Housing that is Affordable: Require developers who receive tax breaks and other public subsidies to make 1/3 of their units affordable.

Reform L&I: Christian will be a strong advocate to get Wilmington's Department of Licenses and Inspections to focus enforcement on landlords and owners of vacants who are neglecting their properties--and following through to get results.

A Strong Advocate:

Christian has been working in the field of housing and community economic development for over 20 years.

She knows we need effective housing policies to meet Wilmington’s housing challenges. She has helped build the H.O.M.E.S. Campaign, a coalition of residents advocating for better housing policies state-wide, because the people who are impacted need to be involved in creating the solutions. She's spoken up at City Council meetings and organized residents to advocate around important policy issues like code enforcement reform and creating programs like down payment and settlement assistance and a homeowner repair program. But more needs to be done!

As your Councilperson, Christian will work with YOU and your neighbors to create the solutions we need to make sure everyone has safe and healthy housing they can afford.
