WILMINGTON HOMEOWNER TAX ABATEMENT PROGRAM

If your City of Wilmington property tax bill increased by 50% or more following the most recent property tax reassessment conducted by New Castle County, then your bill will be reduced to the amount of your last bill before the reassessment.
Deadline to Apply: May 16th
Description: To qualify for this property tax exemption, you must meet all of the following requirements:

 

  • Property is within city limits of Wilmington, Delaware.

  • A city property tax bill increase of at least 50% as a result of the reassessment.

  • You have owned the property for at least 10 years.

  • You are not in arrears in property taxes.

  • You do not currently receive any other property exemption from the City of Wilmington.

  • Your combined household income is less than or equal to 80% of Wilmington's annual median income. Your household includes your spouse and any other adult who lives with you. Income guidelines as of June 1, 2025 are copied below:

Applications should be received by May 16 of each year to receive a full exemption for taxes levied the following July. This application must be completed and resubmitted every year. The exemption will be applied as a credit to your next property tax bill. Please call 311 with questions.
